Asia Ahmetjanova/Helēna Sorokina "Shared Monologue" for solo voice (2024)
Thanks to the close collaboration between the singer and the composer, a deeply personal and highly individualized approach to the piece was achieved.
Helēna Sorokina, who experiences music through vivid colors, wove her synesthetic perceptions into the interpretation, capturing not only her extraordinary technical mastery but also her uniquely intimate way of translating sensory experiences into musical language. Through this shared process, the work evolved into a shared monologue — a living dialogue shaped by mutual trust, creative freedom, and a shared vision, reaching outward to connect with the audience. The score itself is a hybrid video score that combines traditional musical notation with images and visual impulses. Originally conceived as an internal tool — invisible to the audience during the performance — the score later opened a second life as a public visual experience, enriching the connection between sound and sight.
One of the most precious aspects of this collaboration was the shared responsibility for shaping the piece, and the freedom it grants future performers to bring their own personal interpretations. This piece is not just a composition; it is a platform for exchange between composer, performer, and audience — a space where each contribution leaves its own imprint. Thus was born our joint creation: Shared Monologue — a celebration of artistic freedom, trust, and openness.
